TikTok adds parental control

The use of the social network TikTok, once known as musical.ly, has been increasing among users of all ages. Although it has become a magnet for the youngest members of the household, the majority of users correspond between the ages of 16-24 years.
After being accused of violating the privacy law of minors, the social network began to request that the user be at least 13 years old.

In the US, TikTok offers a limited version of the application for users under the age of 13, which does not allow sharing or commenting on videos and messages with other people.

But in the case of other countries, the application has added a new tool, a parental control so that the smallest of the house make responsible use of this social network that everyone talks about.

Parental control functions in TikTok:

Not everything on TikTok is age-appropriate content, so app administrators have recently taken the step of adding parental controls to their settings.

In this way parents can manage certain actions for the responsible use of this social network.

• They will be able to manage the time that minors spend within the social network by selecting from the application the maximum time that minors can be inside.
• Selection in settings on messages, option that the child's account can receive external messages, from friends or directly block this option.
• Option to activate a mode that allows restricting the appearance of content that is not suitable for all audiences.
  Although it is still unknown how they classify content from within the application, to know if it is appropriate or not for different ages.
   

The bad news is that the parent administrator or legal guardian will need to create a TikTok account in order to adjust parental controls. But do not panic, it is a social network where you can create a profile in a very intuitive and easy way.

How to use parental control?

Once you have created the account with which to configure this option as a parent administrator or legal guardian profile, you will be able to access the profile settings from the toolbar at the bottom in the "Me" option.
Steps:

• Access the top menu where the 3 points appear and there, select the option "digital detoxification"

• You will find 3 options and you will have to select "family synchronization" in this menu will give you to choose if it is the minor's TikTok account or the legal guardian, this time choose "legal guardian".

• In this module the application clarifies the conditions and functions of parental control. Press continue, the next screen that will appear on the phones will be a QR code, here is the time to pick up the minors' phone to synchronize both accounts.

• To synchronize the minor's mobile, you will have to follow the same steps from the application, the change will be that this time, you will have to point out that this is the minor's account, from the family synchronization menu. Within the option this time will give the possibility to scan the QR code that they have provided on the phone of the legal guardian.

• Once the accounts are synchronized, from the application on the guardians' phone, within the synchronization option, the child's account will be linked, you can make the time limit settings, restrict access to certain content and the possibility of disabling the messaging option, choosing whether the minor can only send messages among their friends or directly disable this option.

From the child's account, you can check within the parental control menu, that the account remains linked to that of the legal guardian and what options are restricted.

How to disable parental control?

To disable parental control options, it is very simple.

You will have to repeat the process of accessing from the tutor's account and accessing the parental control menu that offered us the 3 options to restrict the use of the minor in TikTok.

At the bottom of the same screen, we will find another option in red color called 'Unlink', which will be in charge of resetting the options.

Once the options are reset, the child's profile will be disabled from the parental control.
