Important news is coming about one of the most controversial topics in video games. Apex Legends seeks to enable crossplay between consoles and computer
In February 2019, the creators of the acclaimed Titanfall surprised the community of PlayStation, Xbox and PC gamers with a new title of the Battle Royale type and free to download. With these features Apex Legends arrived and was instantly made with millions of players around the world and on all three platforms.
Apex Legends is registered in the game mode that have titles that have thousands of fans like Fortnite and Call of Duty Warzone. The Battle Royale game type consists of always starting on the same map, all players in the same conditions and aiming to destroy all enemies as the map shrinks. It can be played alone or in teams. Also in Apex Legends, which takes place in a futuristic type scenario, the person can choose between different legends which have different special abilities from each other which makes the development of each game different.
Since the online multiplayer option was developed in video games and platforms, a debate has been generated every time a new release comes out. The question around what is known as crossplay, a name that refers to the chance or not that players have to face users from other platforms. For example, a PlayStation 4 user versus an Xbox One user or a console user against a PC user.
From official statements of members of the company in charge of the renowned shooter, news are coming about Apex Legends and the possibility that it admits this configuration in its title.
The possibilities and decision to enable the cross-platform showdown option is one of the Apex Legends news that fans are looking forward to. Two official testimonies of Respawn Entertainment employees on the matter suggest that the situation will occur soon.
Dusty Welch and Chad Grenier hold senior executive positions at the company that develops Apex Legends. Welch is general manager while Grenier is the game director. Respawn Entertainment employees provided statements to the specialized media Game Informer in which they stated that crossplay is indeed in the company's plans and that they are working to enable the modality.
Welch said he knows the importance and need of crossplay for the industry and added the intimate fact that both he and Grenier play Apex Legends outside of work and that they would like to have the possibility of facing each other through different consoles.
From these statements that could bring important news and updates for Apex Legends, Twitter users started a debate and consulted another member and part of the team in charge of the Battle Royale distributed by Electronic Arts. The questions were for Jason McCord who, after insistent inquiries, initially decided not to answer anything. In the face of McCord's silence, one user was annoyed to which another replied that the silence when asked about the possibility of a crossplay was also an answer. That is, if the company is working in this modality and in search of its correct operation, they will not advance it as well as through social networks. McCord picked up this response and sent a tweet with a nice gif that corroborated that statement.
That the possibility of cross-platform play is enabled (PlayStation 4, Xbox and PC) would be an important novelty for Apex Legends. Crossplay is a theme that generates an exchange of ideas and different positions around all the titles that support multiplayer. There are several arguments, but there are two that can be considered central. On the one hand there is the possibility of getting and activating cheats or "cheats" more easily on PC and on the other hand that the physical characteristics of the consoles versus the computer make it more complex to play with a PlayStation or Xbox controller .
In summary, the comparison is made between consoles and PC. While consoles are rather closed systems when it comes to programming and the user plays through a single command, PC gamers for their part can have access to modify the game from within to install programs that benefit them (known like "cheats") and also have the advantage that it is easier to play with the keyboard and mouse.
Authorized voices from Respawn Entertainment raised the possibility that Apex Legends will feature crossplay. The new feature would rekindle a debate that is not settled in the gamer community.
