One of the directors of the zombie mode says goodbye

Call of Duty is one of the characteristic titles of the first person shooting mode. With more than 30 titles published since the beginning of 2000, the products are developed in different scenarios of war between people. Sometimes they are current, others refer to past conflicts and sometimes to future and spatial settings. In addition to traditional multiplayer or story-style gameplay alternatives, Activision's biggest title has the acclaimed zombie mode.
Starting in 2020, Call of Duty will have to face the challenge of maintaining the level of the zombie mode before the news of the resignation of Jason Blundell, one of the most important creative directors of Treyarch and responsible for number one of the undead in Black Ops 3 and Blacks Ops 4.

Suspicious starts

In 2008 the video game development studio within Activision Treyarch introduced in the title Call of Duty: World at War a game option that was different from the traditional one. The zombie mode came despite the doubts of Activision itself that it was not considered a style of play that would honor the saga. However, fans received it in a good way and the living dead arrived to stay definitively in the popular shooter.
In the beginning, the zombie mode only belonged to the titles created by the Treyarch studio (the Black Ops saga) but due to the phenomenon it produced, it was included in the titles of the creative divisions Sledgehammer Games (World War II, Advanced Warfare) and the products from Infinity Ward (Modern Warfare 2019). In this game option, the user must survive hordes of zombies that grow larger and stronger as the rounds pass in different scenarios. A round ends when all zombies are eliminated. The modality usually has a central story that guides it and unfolds on different maps. Each scenario has objects and puzzles to solve.

Zombie mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

In 2018 Activision launched a new creation of the Treyarch saga which many fans consider the best in Call of Duty. In addition to having a new Batlle Royale style, Black Ops 4 brought the most important zombie mode so far.
In the game distributed by Activision, the story focuses on the character of Scarlet Rhodes who will seek to solve the mystery of her father's disappearance. Three other characters accompany her on the adventure: Diego Necalli, Stanton Shaw and Bruno Delacroix. The available scenarios refer to time travel and players will be able to explore, for example, maps such as "IX" located in an ancient Roman coliseum or "Voyage of Despair" that takes place on board the Titanic. The other two levels are "Alpha Omega" and "Ancient Evil".

Blundell's resignation

Through a tweet issued from the official account of the Treyarch studio (@Treyarch), one of the most important latest Call of Duty news of the year was broadcast. Jason Blundell left the company after 13 years. The firm dedicated words of thanks to him for his contributions and wished him the best for the future of the now former Creative Director.
In the official statement signed by Blundell, who was one of the most important managers in the latest Black Ops titles, described his years in the company as fantastic, affirmed that he felt privileged by the variety of projects in which he participated and highlighted the work in zombie mode. Regarding the team dedicated to the alternative option of Call of Duty born in 2008, he maintained that his source of inspiration was the passion, enthusiasm and madness with which that community worked.
In addition Jason Blundell in his parting words published on February 28, 2020 said: "The beauty of zombies is that it has always been about the interaction between us as developers and one of the most passionate gaming communities on the planet."
Part of the fans of that game alternative dedicated words of thanks with tweets that said that the zombie mode would not be the same without it, that they would be eternally grateful and that the passion and vision that Blundell brought managed to add all kinds of players to that modality of Call of Duty.

The resignation of one of the directors of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 leaves the Activision title facing a huge challenge for the games to come. According to rumors, Treyarch will be in charge of the new launch in 2020 and will surely include the zombie mode. The creative studio will have to maintain the level that Jason Blundell has brought to it in recent years.
